Old-fashioned alarm clock (but silent!)

I have an old-fashioned alarm clock with a mechanical bell mechanism. It keeps very good time, but for some reason the alarm bell function has a fatal flaw -- the bell doesn't ring! Maybe someone more mechanically adept than myself can fix it. As such, I can only recommend if you want a nostalgic way of keeping the time, but please don't rely on it to get you to school or work in the morning. Would look good in a cottage kitchen, I think. It takes AA batteries, and I have fitted two new ones, it's working just fine.
