Two miniature railway sleepers - wood - oak

All the details

I thought that these were a couple of small railway sleepers, but when I went to cut them in half, I could not! They were not pine but OAK! Not sure what they were used for. A lintel over a small window? Anyway, they are very heavy and would suit a wood carver. Size: 27.5 x 5.5 x 9 inches. Please see photo:
