All the details

An update-there has been a lot of interest after 3 days but I have decided that I will make a decision on Sunday. The bike will need a thorough service, so you will need to know how to do that. This was bought by me and is a largish frame suited to someone around 6'1". It has a triple chainset with a 9speed cassette. Hard-tail with suspension forks. It needs a good service as its been in the shed for 3 years, maybe a little longer. It has road tyres, and has been ridden for a few day rides of 125miles or more. Do come and take a look if interested, as I'm not able to supply a photo. It would make a lovely winter roadbike for a clubman. It has some mudguards fitted. In a QUANDARY, there is lots of interest how do I choose? Any thoughts?

I can not find anything on Google called a Nelson mountain bike, just places /towns called Nelson, like in New Zealand. Is it a brand name? What kind of bike is it? Not sure if this is right as I am not that tall, but potentially interested but no idea what type of bike this is. Penny /Harry

Your quandary is probably to go from the first message.... However look for quick responses, letting successful person know your timescales and move to next person etc. You can also look to see if person has given away items too I think. That is fair also. Good luck

I think you are in a very difficult position because you are offering such a fantastic thing. Lots of people would love to have a bike. If it was me I think I would read through all the requests and then maybe narrow it down to the ones that appeal to me the most. I would want my bike to go to someone who would appreciate it and make lots of use of it. You could contact your shortlist and see what sort of vibe you got from them. Perhaps you could speak to them or they could come and look at the bike to be sure they are still interested. You could explain you are still deciding, which is obviously fair enough. Hopefully in the end you will feel happy with your choice. :-) Best wishes Karen

As it's a specialist item how about an exam testing interested parties knowledge of cycling?

Some ideas : a) Choose a worthy cause ! EG : my trainee medic son had his bike stolen and now cannot easily get to where he works in London hospitals without going on public transport ! b) see if anyone is prepared to put money into a Hambleden Charity !

I usually offer it to the first reply and hope that it is someone who genuinely wants the item and not a quick profit. It is good to know that you are giving it to someone who would make good use of it and as a good item I don't think anyone would mind answering a few questions to help you decide. If I were you I would take up cycling again and keep it!
